Nabi DreamTab HD8 Kids Tablet

Fuhu Nabi DreamTab HD8 Children’s Tablet

The Nabi DreamTab HD8 kids tablet is the latest Android device boasting a full 8-inch HD display, digital pen, 2GB of RAM, and a NVIDIA Tegra 4 quad-core processor. However, it’s not geared towards executives or professionals – this educational tablet was explicitly designed just for kids to help them get a head start on early childhood education.

Nabi DreamTab HD8

Nabi DreamTab HD8

Developed by kid-centric tablet creators ‘Fuhu’ in a joint venture with DreamWorks Animation, the DreamTab tablet line is making its animation, characters, and other content an integral part of its operating system.

In January of this year, Fuhu began showing off their Nabi DreamTab HD8 in addition to their 12-inch model at CES. The 8-inch DreamTab is on the list of best tablets for kids 2014.

While the HD tablet maintains the specs of respectable all-around Android tablets, they’re exclusively created for children and have kid-friendly features including games, media, educational software, bumper cases, an emphasis on age-related apps, and a user-friendly interface and operating system.

The software consists of Dream Pro Studio, which illustrates drawing and animation techniques with the help of the Dream Pen (a pressure-sensitive device from Wacom). The DreamTab 8 includes photo sharing, email apps, Nabi Konnect instant messaging, and access to children’s programming from the Nabi Radio apps and Nabi Play.

Other savvy hardware features include 16GB of storage, a 5MP rear camera, microSD card slot, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, 2MP front-facing camera, and 802.11n WiFi.

Like the majority of Fuhu kids tablets, the 2014 DreamTab HD8 has a convenient parent mode that lets you use it just like a standard Android tablet along with the stock Google app launcher in addition to other keen features.

Pick one up for around $269 from either Walmart or Target – soon to be available from other retailers as well.

LeapFrog LeapBand Fitness Tracker

Smartwatch for Kids

Fit Made Fun!

Looking for the top Christmas toys for 2014?

The wearable technology movement is in full effect, and exercise-based activity trackers lead the way. Now, children can enjoy fitness tech wear too.

LeapFrog LeapBand

LeapFrog LeapBand

LeapFrog recently unveiled the LeapBand, a device worn around the wrist. The fitness tracker is designed for children ages 4 to 7 and goes perfectly with an educational kids tablet. The LeapBand toy is the only fitness tracker for kids that encourages active play and healthy habits with a customizable pet pal.

Remember those Tamagotchi toys from the 1990s? Virtual pets are integrated into the device and your child can exercise, feed and bathe them. Points earned from activity challenges unlock new pets, as well as treats and toys for them. Your little tyke can “walk like a crab,” “pop like popcorn” or “spin like a helicopter,” unlocking new games and “digital pets” on the device. Your little one can learn about staying active and healthy while unlocking rewards.

Wearable tech has become a top digital trend in the past year or so. The LeapBand watch is a watered down version of what you might see in an adult fitness tracker — the Fitbit, Jawbone and Nike+ Fuelband.

The LeapBand activity tracker goes on sale in August 2014. The kids smartwatch fitness band will retail for $40 and come in blue, green or pink.
